Wien's Displacement Law

Wien's displacement law is very useful when it comes to measuring the temperature of hot radiant objects.

The rule states that for a black body having a wavelength carrying the maximum energy and its absolute temperature are inversely proportional to each other.

If we consider,
λmax = Wavelength of maximum intensity (meters)
T = Absolute temperature of the black body (kelvins),
λmax * T = b

In this equation, 'b' is a constant. It has the value 2.897×10−3 m⋅K and is called Wien's displacement constant.

Thus, the following is true.
  • Hot objects appear bluish because they emit most of their radiation at shorter wavelengths.
  • Cooler objects appear reddish because they release most of their radiation at longer wavelengths.

  1. Very informative article.
But I advise you for more visuals like photos or videos from your YouTube channel. Other than Good job. And I like that you have 1K+ members on your Facebook community.
