Difference between Milling and Grinding

The milling process is different from grinding. Today in this post we will know the basic difference between milling and grinding.

Milling is done to machine parts using rotary cutters whereas grinding is done to finish the surface using abrasives. The precision and surface finish obtained through grinding can be up to ten times better than with either turning or milling.

The table given below will show some more such differences between the two machining processes.

Rotary cutters are used as tools.
Rotary wheels are used as tools. They are made of abrasive particles.
Countable multiple cutting points.
Infinite cutting points.
Pockets can be formed.
Pockets cannot be formed
Can’t use two cutters at a time.
In centerless grinding, two grinding wheels are used.
Part to be machined is not activated electrically.
In electrochemical grinding, a negatively charged abrasive grinding wheel, an electrolyte fluid, and a positively charged workpiece is used.
